  • What is the Graduating Class Challenge?

The Graduating Class Challenge is a one-week campaign with exclusive events to celebrate graduating students and receive feedback on a brief opinion survey.

The purpose of the campaign is to educate graduating students about life as alumni, to help keep them engaged after graduation, and to bring the Alumni office and graduating students together by helping them celebrate their last year.

Your feedback will help to keep the close to 16,000 graduates connected to one another and to the university, as well as engaged with the exciting programs and events the Alumni office and the Alumni Association are developing for you.

Graduating students will be entered in for a chance to win a $1,000 award toward their tuition or student loan when they submit a 2018 feedback questionnaire.

The faculty with the highest number of submissions wins a $1,000 award to support a graduating student in the 2018-2019 academic year.

  • When does the Graduating Class Challenge happen?

The challenge takes place every January. This year it will take place from Monday, January 22 to Friday, January 26.

  • Who can participate?

Only students graduating from the university in 2018 may participate.

  • How can I participate as a graduating student?

You can participate by filling out the 2018 online questionnaire starting Monday, January 15, in person through your faculty representatives, at one of the promotional tables or by attending any of the free Graduating Class Challenge events. These exclusive events are an opportunity to celebrate the graduating class, meet alumni and obtain valuable career advice. Speak to your faculty representatives for more information.

  • Why will graduating students want to participate?

By submitting their survey, graduating students have a chance to win a $1,000 award toward their tuition or student loan.  This year two graduating students who submit a questionnaire will be randomly selected!

The faculty with the highest number of submissions will also win a $1,000 award to support a graduating student in the 2018-2019 academic year.

  • Why is the class of 2018 mug part of the Graduating Class Challenge?

Graduating students have the opportunity to make a $5 donation to receive the class of 2018 mug, an exclusive and unique memento of their graduating year. All proceeds will go towards the Class Gift. You can donate online or at any of the GCC events.

  • Why is the faculty award important?

Tuition covers only 50 per cent of the cost of each student’s education. The remainder is funded by government and the private sector. In addition, more than 50 per cent of students apply annually for some kind of financial support so they can afford their studies. Gifts of any level can help!

By supporting students, we are increasing the alumni community and networking opportunities as well as strengthening the university and each student’s experience.

  • What events are available to graduating students?

View the available events on the Graduating Class Challenge Event Schedule page.

  • What is the Class Gift?

The Graduating Class Challenge Committee has selected the Student Refugee Program as the primary cause for the 2018 Class Gift fundraising initiative.  Funds will be raised to offset the costs associated with a refugee student's final two years of study at the university.

The goal will be to raise a minimum of $1,000 through direct donations to the Class Gift and donations made to the class of 2018 mug.
